OT Spending to Rebound in 2010 - Gartner

Gartner said worldwide IT spending was forecast to total $3,3-trillion in 2010, a 3,3 percent increase from 2009.



Worldwide IT spending is on a pace to decline by 5,2 percent this year, the biggest slowdown since the dotcom bust of 2001, according to Gartner.


"While the IT industry will return to growth in 2010, the market will not recover to 2008 revenue levels before 2012," Peter Sondergaard, senior vice president at Gartner and global head of research, said in a statement.


"2010 is about balancing the focus on cost, risk, and growth. For more than 50 percent of (chief information officers) the IT budget will be zero percent or less in growth terms. It will only slowly improve in 2011," he said.


Gartner said worldwide computer hardware spending was expected to be flat in 2010 after declining 16,5 percent this year to $317-billion.

Worldwide telecom spending is forecast to grow 3,2 percent next year after declining by four percent in 2009 with revenue of nearly $1,9-trillion.


Worldwide IT services spending is expected to grow 4,5 percent in 2010 from $781-billion this year.


Gartner said worldwide software spending is forecast to decline 2,1 percent in 2009 and grow 4,8 percent in 2010.
